Taking advantage of the fact that we are in the first months of the year, I decided to review the cloud computing trends for 2017 . Usually forecasts are presented in the last months of the previous year, so we already have something between four and five months since the experts projected their opinions.
In addition to knowing what will happen during the year, it is always important to understand the reasons that justify the strong migration of the solutions used and provided by companies to a cloud architecture. This understanding helps in defining projects and reinforces decisions about investments in technology to be made in the coming months.
Without a doubt, the main factor contributing to the massive migration to the cloud in 2017 is the consolidation of technology. AWS made a strong contribution to this maturation, by demonstrating all the growth and possibilities that cloud computing could offer to companies. case several successful cases proved the potential of using cloud computing resources within the business strategy.
Today we already know that using a public cloud in the architecture of our solution is even safer than maintaining an infrastructure in our own datacenter and the concern with security is vital for the business of companies that provide cloud computing solutions.
Best practices, constant investments in infrastructure, compliance with the main security and governance standards and, mainly, solutions that guarantee high availability are some examples that demonstrate that risks related to information security are minimized when cloud computing is adopted in the business architecture.
In addition to several successful cases , currently several companies have migrated their critical and high-risk solutions to the private or hybrid cloud. In addition to the infrastructure, various solutions focused on business productivity, mobile services, artificial intelligence, among others, already have full support for deployment and use directed to the cloud.
Cloud computing goes beyond startups : I can list good examples of large companies, organizations linked to governments, education and several other areas of activity such as health, science, Big Data and Internet of Things (Iot).
Another big problem that I always heard when talking about cloud computing was linked to the lack of trained professionals with real experience with architecture. Currently, both the market and academia have already met the demand for human capital formation with the right profile to meet the needs of cloud computing.
And as I mentioned earlier, the existence of so many successful projects means that we have a workforce with a lot of experience and good practices acquired.
Another good reason that I am sure will further accelerate the migration of companies to the cloud is the incorporation of architecture as part of the strategic decision of organizations. In other words, projects are already being created to “run” in the cloud.
The low cost provided by cloud computing allows directing investment to other important areas of the project. The fact of being able to scale the architecture of the solution according to the growing demand of the project allows the companies to adapt the costs according to the growth.
As you can see, we already have a good list of reasons to be sure that in addition to the trends for 2017, we will certainly continue to see a strong migration of companies to the cloud in a short period of time.
