Skyone and Reunidas: cloud expanding possibilities

case-reunidas

The Reunidas Group migrated some of its main systems to the cloud, making work easier across all of its more than 30 locations. Because they operate 24/7, their systems cannot afford downtime. With Skyone's cloud computing, this problem is solved.

United Group

Reunidas has been transporting people and shortening distances for 72 years. The company began its operations in 1950 in the state of Santa Catarina with the desire to transport people and shorten the long distances that separated them, seeking something visionary to unite, bring people together, and connect them. More than just customers, they knew they were participating in stories created and recreated through new paths. Throughout all the kilometers and years traveled, the Reunidas Group has been inspired by people and their dreams to connect tradition to the future through innovation.

Today, with Reunidas Passagens, Cargas, Express and Turismo, the company is already the largest in the transportation sector in Santa Catarina and one of the 10 largest in the country. Promoting connections and shortening distances in more than 100 cities, the company is constantly renewing itself and seeking continuous improvement.

Challenges

The company has a presence in several cities with units spread across various locations, and, having been in the market for some years, all its work was done with local servers until 2015. However, with time and the modernization of both the company and the offering of services that contributed to the company's expansion, in addition to providing support for its services, they began using the Globus ERP. For proper functioning, the cloud was necessary so that data and files would be concentrated in a space that united its branches.

With over 30 different locations, working with local servers was complicated. The required internal infrastructure was too large, the control was too great, the IT team needed to be specialized, the internal structure needed to be very robust, and the high costs were a problem in themselves! When they did the math, they realized that all of this was becoming unsustainable.

When we started using Globus, we also implemented TMS alongside cargo management and found it to be more advantageous. From the moment we began using the cloud, we migrated everything else we could to the cloud. Mônica Cofférri – IT Coordinator, Grupo Reunidas S/A

To manage internal servers, they needed a team focused solely on that. In other words, they wouldn't be able to get the IT team to focus on what matters most: the company's business!

Another challenging point was the unavailability of the systems. When a server failure occurred, it could take up to two days to restore operations. The company's cargo division operates 24 hours a day and cannot stop, and if the system was down, the impact was significant, as the truck could not leave and the financial loss was substantial.

Skyone Autosky Solution

From north to south, the company is present in virtually every state and, often, in more than one city per state. To make the work function, they made extensive use of VPM, attempted to create internal applications with local installations, and had servers that centralized data and acted as sub-centers.

Therefore, they decided to migrate their systems, and the cloud was the chosen solution; many of their problems ceased to exist. Because they work 24/7 connected, they needed a solution that could meet this demand and support the workload. Another point was support; with a cloud infrastructure, all needs are the responsibility of the Cloud team, allowing the company to focus on its core business, finding what it needed in Skyone Autosky.

Regarding servers, solutions, and systems, we hardly need an internal support team. And with that, we gain a lot: time, more practical tools for daily use, and improved employee performance, as they can access resources without loss of productivity. So, that was really great. From the moment we started using the cloud, we realized it was much more worthwhile. Mônica Cofférri – IT Coordinator, Grupo Reunidas S/A

Today, if Skyone doesn't have a solution immediately, you can simply migrate within the cloud to another server and everything continues to function normally, as Skyone Autosky allows for this flexibility and various usage possibilities.

Results

The results exceeded the company's expectations! In addition to practicality and availability, one of the highlights was the team's support, always available to help with any issue.

The convenience and ease of use within IT is lacking. From support – you provide all the support you need today – in record time. One day I needed an IP address released on a machine for web services, and I needed it immediately. I didn't even have time to call my team; they immediately replied that the IP was released. I opened a ticket, and within 5 minutes, they responded. Mônica Cofférri – IT Coordinator, Grupo Reunidas S/A

With the cloud, data became centralized, eliminating the need for physical infrastructure centers for branch offices, and making all data available to everyone.

Furthermore, the costs associated with server licenses, energy, support, updates, infrastructure, and dedicated staffing have been reduced, allowing Reunidas to focus on what matters most: the business!

The results were so satisfactory that after a while they migrated other internal services to Skyone Autosky .
